Govt to Build Research Parks at 8 IITs, IISc Bangalore

The Central Government of India has announced that it will build research parks at 8 IITs and IISc Bangalore. The research parks will be set up at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crore.

The research parks will be used to promote research and development in emerging technologies. The parks will also be used to incubate start-ups and to provide a platform for industry-academia collaboration.

The IITs and IISc Bangalore that will be getting research parks are:

  • IIT Bombay

  • IIT Delhi

  • IIT Madras

  • IIT Kharagpur

  • IIT Roorkee

  • IIT Guwahati

  • IIT Hyderabad

  • IISc Bangalore


The research parks will be set up in a phased manner over the next five years. The first phase of the project will be completed by 2025.

The research parks are a part of the government's plan to boost research and development in India. The government has also announced a number of other initiatives in this area, such as the National Research Foundation and the National Institutes of Science Education and Research (NISER).

The research parks will be funded by the Central government. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will be the nodal agency for the project. The DST will work with the IITs and IISc Bangalore to set up the research parks.

The state governments will also be involved in the project. The state governments will provide land for the research parks and will also provide support for infrastructure development.
